Software Documentation Service (SDS)
The Software Documentation Service (SDS) provides a centralized, searchable catalog of all software available across the University of Kentucky’s HPC systems. It allows researchers to determine quickly:
What software is available on each cluster
Whether containerized versions exist
Relevant scientific domains and use-cases
Available documentation, examples, and software tags
Version availability across clusters
SDS is the authoritative source for software discovery across LCC, MCC, and ECC.
Key Features
- Search and Filter Across All Clusters
The SDS interface includes a powerful multi-column filter system enabling users to refine results based on:
Cluster / Resource (e.g., LCC, MCC, ECC)
Software Type
Research Discipline
Tags (methodologies, tools, workflows)
Container Availability
Name or keyword search
Users can combine multiple filters to identify software that fits their workflow quickly.
- Container Availability
For many applications, SDS displays:
Whether a Singularity container is available
A link to container details (when provided)
This helps users determine whether a pre-built environment exists, simplifying deployment.
- Documentation & Usage Examples
Each software entry includes a Details panel providing:
Description
Intended scientific domains
Documentation links provided by developers or UKY HPC staff
Example usage (when available)
Version-specific notes
- Understanding the SDS Interface
Filters Panel
The top portion of the page includes collapsible filters categorized as:
Resource
Tags
Research Discipline
Software Type
Each filter category displays the number of software entries that match each option. Filtering dynamically updates the table.
Software Table
Below the filters is the list of interactive software. Columns include:
Software name
Cluster availability
Container availability
Description
Tags
Documentation / Details button
Clicking Details opens an expanded view with additional information.
