Step-by-step guide

After obtaining an account, you can log in to the system using a client program that uses the SSH (Secure Shell) protocol, which encrypts network communication. It is very important to encrypt your login session so that others cannot see your private information, such as your password. Unencrypted logins to the cluster are not allowed. Clients for ssh are available for all common operating systems, and many, such as Linux or Mac operating systems, have the the client already built in. In Windows, there are many available clients for use such as PuTTY.

1. Install PuTTY

2. Start PuTTY (Search it from start menu)

3. Enter the hostname (lcc.uky.edu for LCC / mcc.uky.edu for MCC) in the address field in the Putty 
   Keep the port number as 22

4. Enter your link blue id and password

5. Enter 'exit' when you are done. (Do NOT leave the SSH connection opened)
